Metal injection moulding manufacturers are today looking at the possibilities offered by 3D printing. A focus lies on sinter-based additive manufacturing technologies already in use today by some metal injection moulding companies. They benefit from their existing equipment as well as from the associated know-how for debinding and sintering. The webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the different sinter-based additive manufacturing technologies and explain how additive manufacturing and metal injection moulding can complement each other.
Topic list:
- Factory of the future: Top voted technologies
- How MIM manufacturers can profit from AM
- New applications of AM and MIM
The range of application of metal injection moulding and sinter-based additive manufacturing – both methods offering great freedom to realize even most complex geometries- can be extended by green part processing or post-processing of sintered components.
The webinar will highlight the possibility of merging several parts in one component and explain how the potential of the two manufacturing technologies can be increased: Green part processing for instance through lasering and machining, post-processing of sintered parts by applying technologies like hot isostatic pressing, polishing and coating.
Topic list:
- No limits for designers
- Merge two or more parts into one
- How AM and MIM can reduce cost of assemblies
- Green part and post-processing for special requirements
The involvement of subcontractors at the earliest possible stage of a development is of particular importance for both metal injection moulding and sinter-based additive manufacturing, since only in this way the specific advantages of these processes can be fully exploited.
The webinar builds on the previous webinar 2 and uses illustrative examples to show the benefits for customers who are involving their suppliers in an early design phase of a new product.
Topic list:
- Co-engineering to realize the full potential of AM and MIM
- Improved function at reduced costs due to AM and MIM
- The one stop claim as a unique selling proposition
Metal injection moulding as well as sinter-based additive manufacturing allow the use of a wide range of materials. Especially in the field of difficult-to-machine materials, both processes show their advantages to the fullest. However, development is not yet at an end and new materials are constantly being developed as the example of NdFeB shows.
The webinar deals with special materials for the metal injection moulding process with a special focus on the production of NdFeB magnets with complex geometries from recycled material, as well as from new NdFeB alloys using metal injection moulding
Topic list:
- High-end materials for AM and MIM
- NdFeB, a new material for MIM
- Recycling of NdFeB magnets
- AM and MIM as green technologies

MIMplus – Precision in Metal
MIMplus Technologies has great knowledge of innovative manufacturing and assembly technologies with a special focus on high-tech materials. Customers come from the medical, automotive, mechanical engineering and the luxury industry.
The company provides support to customers for the selection of the appropriate manufacturing process, the suitable material, the optimization of components or assemblies for the chosen production technology to improve function and cost, determines the required level of automation and manufactures the complete assembly in-house and/or as an extended workbench at selected suppliers. The company also performs all the necessary tests for the extended workbench and purchased parts and thus assumes overall responsibility for assemblies.
